Gabcast replacements ..
Thanks to James Clay - we have a Gabcast replacement (well almost and well not entriely due to James Clay - but thanks to him for bringing it to my attention).

James has blogged about it here: http://elearningstuff.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/audioboofm/
So - is there a downside? - Well, compared to Gabcast there are a few, yes - but it's still early days.
The biggest problem for me is that it is designed for the iPhone (and iTouch) although James has said he used a Nokia to make a recording too. I haven't tried this yet but used my home phone to dial 0203 393 6430 and then followed instructions. With Gabcast, you then went to your area and 'claimed' your recording but with Audioboo (at this time) you have to go straight to the home page and search for it amongst the others. But this wasn't an arduous task for me and the URL and Embed cod are provided for you to use. However - there is no option to donwload, which was a major feature of Gabcast.
It's worth following http://twitter.com/markrock to keep up to date with what's happening but for now, i'm going to investigate www.ipadio.com
I saw this site mentioned in one of the responses to James' post.
It says:
Right now ipadio is free for consumers.
Our commercial clients are contracting with us to deliver bespoked ipadio phonecasting as detailed below....Well, I've registered and they have sent me a number to ring but it's an 0845 number which T-mobile will charge me for. They allude to a 020 number too but as yet i can't find it. so I'm about to re-register from the house phone - try it and then re-register again with the mobile to see if i can get the 020 nukmber sent to me ...
More when I have it.
